چکیده

The assessment of local and regional impacts of climate change often requires downscaling of general circulation model (GCM) projections from coarser GCM-scale to finer localor catchmentscale spatial resolution. This paper provides an assessment of two downscaling approaches for simulation of daily rainfall over Sydney, Australia. The two downscaling alternatives compared include a multivariate multisite statistical downscaling model based on semi-parametric conditional simulation and a dynamical downscaling approach that uses the National Center for Atmospheric Research (NCAR) weather research and forecasting (WRF) model. The two approaches are evaluated for their ability to reproduce important at-site rainfall statistics at a network of 45 raingauge stations and regional statistics over the catchment area of the Warragamba Dam (9,050 km). The results indicate that the simulations from these approaches capture many regionally observed climate features, including the simulated seasonal and annual means and daily extreme rainfall values. Further analyses suggest that the statistical downscaling approach provides improved simulations of attributes related to point rainfall, spell lengths and amounts, whereas the dynamical approach is well-suited for applications where regionally averaged rainfall is of primary concern. doi: 10.2166/nh.2013.094 R. Long Lead Flood Simulation Using Downscaled GCM Data in Arid and Semi-arid Regions: A Case Study

Flood is one of the most calamitous natural disasters that causes extensive property and life damages across theworld. It however, could be a blessing due to its special natural water resources recharging value. By simulating themagnitude of probable floods considering the anthropogenic and natural effects and implementing contingency plans, their damages could be reduced. In this paper, the Gen...

Using the IHACRES model to investigate the impacts of changing climate on streamflow in a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran

Understanding the variations of streamflow of rivers is an important prerequisite for designing hydraulic structures as well as managing surface water resources in basins. An overview of the impact of climate change on the streamflow in the Hablehroud River, the main river of a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran, is provided. Using the LARS-WG statistical downscaling model, the outputs of Ha...

Probabilistic estimates of future changes in 1 California temperature and precipitation using 2 statistical and dynamical downscaling

25 Sixteen global general circulation models were used to develop probabilistic projections of 26 temperature (T) and precipitation (P) changes over California by the 2060s. The global models 27 were downscaled with two statistical techniques and three nested dynamical regional climate 28 models, although not all global models were downscaled with all techniques. Both monthly and 29 daily times...

Addressing Health Equity Through Action on the Social Determinants of Health: A Global Review of Policy Outcome Evaluation Methods

Background Epidemiological evidence on the social determinants of health inequity is well-advanced, but considerably less attention has been given to evaluating the impact of public policies addressing those social determinants. Methodological challenges to produce evidence on policy outcomes present a significant barrier to mobilising policy actions for health equities. This review aims to exa...
